Love is the very essence of life. It is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Yet it is not found only at the end of the rainbow. Love is at the beginning also, and from it springs the beauty that arched across the sky on a stormy day. Love is the security for which children weep, the yearning of youth, the adhesive that binds marriage, and the lubricant that prevents devastating friction in the home; it is the peace of old age, the sunlight of hope shining through death. How rich are those who enjoy it in their associations with family, friends, and neighbors! Love, like faith, is a gift of God. It is also the most enduring and most powerful virtue.” ~Gordon B. Hinckley

Young Women Values by MyKayla Taylor 01/01/2012

I was asked to speak on our young women values. Our motto is stand for truth and righteousness. Our theme is we are daughters of our heavenly father who loves us and we love him we will stand as witnesses of god at all times and in all things and in all places. As we strive to live the young women values which are faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, integrity, and virtue. As we come to accept and act upon these values we will be prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple, and enjoy the blessings of exaltation.

The young women's theme helps young women set two goals: to stand as witnesses of Christ, and to prepare to make and keep sacred covenants, especially those made in the temple.

Values are designed to teach a young women who she really is, what to do with her life, and why she is to do it. The 1st three values: faith, divine nature, and individual worth, teach a young women who she is and where her potential can take her. And the next five: knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, integrity, and virtue-tell her what she is to do: gain knowledge, choose good over evil, follow the saviors example of good works, and make her actions consistent with her knowledge of right and wrong, and to be based on high moral standards.

But young women don't just know the values by heart, they've taken them to heart. The principles are strengthening testimonies and changing lives. They are also helping young women to draw closer to the Savior. In Mormon 8:38 it says: O ye pollution, ye hypocrites, ye teachers, who sell yourselves for that which will canker, why have ye polluted the holy church of god? Why are ye ashamed to take upon you the name of Christ? Why do ye not think that greater is the value of an endless happiness than that misery which never dies-because of the praise of the world?

Young women of the church all around the world are committing to live by these values.

A color has been designated for each value as a visual identification and as a reminder of the principle of a particular importance, as young women face the challenges of their teenage years.

For faith the color is white and stands for "I am a daughter, of a heavenly father, and I will have faith in his eternal plan which centers in Jesus Christ, my savior."
For divine nature the color is blue and stands for "I have inherited divine qualities, which I will strive to develop."
For individual worth the color is red and stands for "I am of infinite worth, with my own divine mission, which I will strive to fulfill."
For knowledge the color is green and stands for "I will continually seek opportunities for learning and growth."
For choice and accountability the color is orange and stands for "I will remain free by choosing good over evil, and will accept responsibility for my choices."
For good works the color is yellow and stands for "I will nurture others and build the kingdom through righteous service."
For integrity the color is purple and stands for "I will have the moral courage to make actions consistent with my knowledge of right and wrong."
For virtue the color is gold and stands for "I will prepare to enter the temple and remain pure and worthy. My thoughts and actions will be based on high moral standards."

In proverbs 31:10 it says: "who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies"

MyKayla closed her talk by sharing her testimony to the congregation.
